Overview

International scaling is not a translation problem. It is an operating problem. What worked in your home market rarely works one-to-one somewhere else, and the companies that scale successfully are the ones whose leadership understands which parts of the business need to travel and which parts need to be rebuilt on the other side.

This work draws on twenty-plus countries of practical operating experience. Central Europe outward, US and Asia inward. What I bring is not a market-entry framework. It's ground truth from having done it personally, a real network across Europe, the US, and Asia, and a read on which relationships open doors that no deck will.

What I Do

Leadership advisory engagements are scoped around the specific team dynamic that's holding the company back or slowing the founder down. Not personality frameworks. Not off-the-shelf leadership programmes. Real team-mechanics work with people who have already sat in these seats themselves.

Leadership advisory engagements include:

• Executive team effectiveness and decision-making cadence

• Founder-CEO transition support: from operator-founder to leader-of-leaders

• Executive hiring: role scoping, candidate assessment, onboarding, and first 90 days

• Leadership team offsites, strategic team-work sessions, and quarterly rhythm design

• Board dynamics, board-CEO relationship, and board pack quality review

• Succession planning for CEO, CxO, and senior leadership roles

• Culture design and org structure for scaling companies

• One-on-one executive coaching and sparring for founder-CEOs and CxOs

• Leadership team assessment, role clarity, and RACI work

• Coordination with executive search partners, compensation advisors, and legal counsel through international network

The network is real, the relationships are current, and the doors that open are the ones that matter. Engagements are scoped and priced as a fixed fee against a defined corridor. There are no hourly rates.

How I Work

Cross-border work starts with an honest read on what parts of your business travel. Product-market fit rarely does. Pricing rarely does. Channels rarely do. What travels is the underlying discipline, the clarity at the top, and the operating rhythm.

From there, we build the market entry sequenced by risk and revenue. Warm intros where they matter, local partners where they add asymmetric value, and an operating cadence that keeps you close enough to the market to see it change without draining your home operation. Ten years of doing this personally means I know what happens six months into a market entry, not just what the deck said on day one.

Market entry is rarely a single-discipline problem. Legal setup, tax structure, hiring, sales channels, and PR positioning all need to move in parallel. I coordinate the specialist stack: legal counsel in the target market, tax advisors, PR and media partners, hiring networks, and channel partners. You get one operating cadence instead of five separate advisor relationships. International scope, local partners, one point of contact.

Why It Matters

Most companies don't fail because the strategy was wrong. They fail because the leadership team wasn't ready to execute it, or the founder-CEO couldn't evolve fast enough into the leader the next stage required. Leadership advisory compresses that risk directly: better executive hires, faster leadership team decisions, cleaner board dynamics, and a founder-CEO who is measurably stronger in the seat quarter over quarter.

The alternative (hoping the team figures it out on their own) is expensive. Wrong executive hires cost twelve months and cash. Slow board dynamics cost investor relationships. Founder burnout costs the company itself. Leadership work done early is one of the highest-ROI investments a scaling company can make, and it's the one most founders postpone because it feels less urgent than the next capital raise or product launch. It rarely is.

What You Can Expect

Companies working with Szel & Partners on leadership advisory typically see:

  • Stronger executive team decision-making, accountability, and operating rhythm

  • Cleaner executive hires and faster first-90-days onboarding

  • Better board dynamics and sharper board-CEO alignment

  • A founder-CEO who has evolved into the next stage of the role

  • Clearer succession planning and reduced key-person risk

  • Culture that scales with the company instead of breaking under it

  • Coordinated access to executive search, compensation, and legal specialists through international network

Leadership isn't about being at the top. It's about setting the conditions for everyone else to do their best work. That's what this practice sits with.
